Many of our programs are free.  If you are interested in financial assistance for fee programs, please call the number above.

The Patterson Park Initiative is an initiative to establish a nature center in Patterson Park.

We currently facilitate nearly 300 education programs a year with the families, schools, and organizations around Patterson Park.

Tiny Tot Program Series

All Tiny Tot programs are free.  Registration is necessary.

 Tiny Tot programs are designed for children ages 2-5.

Tiny Tot Safari:  Fireflies and Ladybugs

Thursday, September 22                                    10-11 am

What do Fireflies and Ladybugs have in common?  They areboth beetles!
Join us on a hunt for beetles in Patterson Park. 
We will learn how beetles are different from other insects.  A take-home craft will be included.  Please register for the program by Tuesday, September 20th.

Tiny Tot Safari:  Signs of Fall

Wednesday, October 26                                   10 – 11 am

How can we tell what season it is?  We will explore the Fall season using our senses!  Join us as we hike through the park and create leaf art.  Please register for the program by Monday, October 24th.

Tiny Tot Safari:  Birds of a Feather

Tuesday, November 15                                               10 – 11 am

What are the birds doing as the weather gets colder?  Join us for an investigation of what makes a bird different from mammals and reptiles.  We will examine stuffed bird mounts and make a treat for the park birds to eat.  Please register for the program by Monday, November 14th.

Night Creatures of Patterson Park

Thursday, September 15 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Join us as the sun sets in Patterson Park.  We will learn about bats, fireflies, and other nighttime animals that use Patterson

Park.  It should be a great opportunity to view bats and fireflies.  Please register for the program by Monday September 12th

Monthly Birdwalk

Saturday, September 24 9:30 am

Join us for a hike through the park.  We will identify the birds who will be sticking out the winter in Patterson Park and those who are passing through during fall migration.  This is an opportunity to see sparrows, warblers, and even hawks in Patterson Park.  Please register for the program by Thursday, September 22nd.

Tree Hike

Wednesday, October 26                                     6-7 pm

The afternoon sun will set off the fall foliage nicely for our walk through Patterson Park.  We will discuss the natural history of several tree species in the park and learn more about the changes that trees go through in autumn that create such vibrant fall colors.  Please register by Monday, October 24th

Monthly Birdwalk

Saturday, October 29                                             8-9:30 am

Are there any sparrows, hawks, or warblers still passing through the park? Join us for a walk during the tail end of fall migration in Patterson Park. Please register by Thursday, October 27th.

 

Herbal Soap Making

Thursday, November 3       Age 12 and older     8 – 9:30 am

Need a home-made gift idea?  You will learn the basic process of making soap and get a few ideas of how to incorporate nature into your soap-making hobby.  There is a $4 fee for this program. 

Please register by Monday, October 31st.  Lye is used in the making of soap.  Therefore this program is not appropriate for children under 12

Natural Holiday Cards

Tuesday, November 15                                       6:30-8:30 pm

Send friends and family cards handmade cards.  We will supply natural materials and ideas for you to create a dozen hand-made cards.  There is a $4 fee for this program.  Please register by Thursday, November 10th.

Monthly Birdwalk

Saturday, November 19                                                 8-9:30 am

The Patterson Park birds are hunkered down for the winter. See who is here to stay!  Please register by Thursday, November 17th.
